On Wednesday, February 28, 2024, the African American Heritage Celebration will be held in the Rotunda of St. Louis City Hall from 6 to 8 .pm. The event is free, open to the public, and will feature an award ceremony honoring three African American St. Louis community leaders.
This year's honorees include KSDK-News 5 Anchor Rene Knott, the City of St. Louis License Collector Mavis Thompson, and EncoreSTL founder Effrem Thomas Boudreau Grettenberger.
The event is presented by City of St. Louis Recorder of Deeds and hosted by St. Louis elected officials, including Recorder of Deeds Michael Butler, Alderwoman Laura Keys, Circuit Attorney Gabe Gore, Alderwoman Pam Boyd, Alderwoman Shameem Hubbard, and Alderman Rasheen Aldridge.
The African American Heritage Celebration is the first in a series of cultural heritage celebrations held in City Hall throughout 2024. February's event will feature live entertainment and refreshments, as well as a presentation of an Aldermanic Resolution and Recorder's Proclamation to the evening's honorees, who are each invited to speak.
