The Conflict Resolution Center – St. Louis (CRCSTL) works to provide professional dispute resolution services that are accessible to all. We aim to be a leader in promoting peaceful, lasting and effective solutions to conflict in St. Louis and the surrounding area, primarily through the facilitation and education of our mediation services.
CRCSTL mediates conflicts between city employees and/or their supervisors, neighbors, civilians and the police, as well as other conflicts in St. Louis. We are committed to resolving disputes in the region, including cases with and without pending legal matters.
Position Summary
CRCSTL believes that internships should be a meaningful opportunity to learn, develop, and implement new skills within the individual’s field of interest. As a result, CRCSTL provides interns significant flexibility in the core tasks of the internship, which are broken into two categories: day-to-day and longer-term projects. The Peer Mediation Intern will be responsible for certain day-to-day responsibilities based on need and interest for program implementation, which may include data collection, working on site to assist in training students as peer mediators, and general tasks related to the program’s implementation.
Areas of Responsibility
Day-to-day responsibilities (variable):
Scheduling and assisting with training middle school and high school age students to serve as peer mediators (alongside CRCSTL staff and volunteers);
Assisting in development of training materials for ongoing peer mediator training and reflection sessions;
Coordinating and shadowing school site visits and;
Assisting in various tasks/events related to school outreach and promotion of the pilot program.
Longer-term projects (one or more of the following):
Program Support : Research new and emerging topics in peer mediation and draft sample policies for the encouragement of peer mediation in area schools. This may include drafting papers for publication, pitching policies to key stakeholders, and/or training on policies or critical topics.
Advertising and Outreach: Assist with outreach and the development of brochures, reports, social media posts, newsletter updates, and/or advertisements to promote and expand the project.
Strategic Planning: Assist staff and key stakeholders to strategically plan for steps to expand of pilot peer mediation program through grant research and or additional outreach.
Professional Qualifications
The ideal candidate would possess the following:
Is currently enrolled in a Masters of Social Work, Education, or Public Policy Program. OR is currently enrolled in Law School;
Experience working with people from diverse cultural, racial and socioeconomic backgrounds;
Experience working with youth;
Strong written and spoken communication skills.
Compensation: This a stipend based internship.
