Conflict Management and De-escalation
Why learn conflict de-escalation?
Conflict in the workplace is natural and common. When people with strong personalities share a space and work together, their differences in opinion can be productive if they are addressed with professionalism, kindness, and empathy.
However, not all conflicts are healthy. Not all conflicts are productive. Some conflicts can devolve into toxic behavior that impacts the work environment for all employees. Consequences of this include a lack of motivation and productivity and a general feeling of unease at the workplace.
When these issues are left unaddressed, employees may feel a decline in their emotional and mental well-being. They may feel reluctant to show up to work. They may stop showing up altogether. Depending on the nature of the conflict, employers may risk litigation if they don’t take the proper steps to ensure that the employees’ needs are being met.
What this training is:
This training focuses on the root causes of workplace conflict and explores techniques to prevent unhealthy conflict, encourage positive dialog, and manage conflict when it happens.
Having Difficult Conversations
We’ve all had those difficult conversations that make us question if we handled things in the best way or made our point in a constructive and professional manner. This training provides tools to have those conversations so you can manage your own conflicts in a way that makes you proud.
Preventing Conflict through Effective Communication
This training also explores practical management considerations relating to conflict, including an exploration of how to establish boundaries and set expectations that prevent uncertainty and frustration. Clear goal setting and the establishment of clear lines of communication may be the key to preventing conflicts that lead to employee dissatisfaction.
Managing Yourself in Conflict
Everyone responds to conflict differently. Some of us become entrenched. Others disengage altogether. So what do we do to ensure that our response is fair and professional? This training provides participants with a number of tools and techniques to manage their own responses to conflict.
Managing Others in Conflict
Finally, this training explores methods to manage others who are in conflict, focusing on strategies to ensure that the conflict manager’s behavior helps rather than hurts.
